Alex Urban's dedication and talent led him to a successful career in sports management. He worked his way up the ranks, gaining invaluable experience and knowledge along the way. Because of his unwavering determination he was offered the position of Executive Director of the prestigious Tour Championship.
The Tour Championship is one of the most significant events in the world of professional golf, showcasing the top players from around the globe. It is a thrilling conclusion to the PGA Tour season, with a massive prize purse and the opportunity to lift the coveted FedEx Cup. Alex knew that taking on this role would be an enormous responsibility, but he was ready for the challenge. He believes that there are three key tenets to the Tour Championship:
1. An amazing historic course, East Lake, that was the home course of legendary Bobby Jones.
2. Volunteerism: With over 1200 volunteers is a gigantic volunteer effort dependent on the people of Atlanta.
3. Giving Back: With fantastic sponsors, the Tour Championship Foundation donated $5.5 million to the community in 2022.
Alex has also focused on making the tournament more accessible to a broader audience. He spearheaded initiatives to bring golf to underserved communities, organizing junior clinics and partnering with local schools. He believed in the power of sports to inspire and change lives, and he wanted to share that passion with as many people as possible. Before joining the garden as a staff person in 2015, Kate McAlpin learned firsthand about the workings of Woodlands while on the board. She worked as the adult education manager at Trees Atlanta after graduating from the Longwood Graduate Program with the University of Delaware.
