Ilham Askia President & CEO, The East Lake Foundation
Ilham Askia is the president and CEO of the East Lake Foundation, which was established in 1995 to revitalize the East Lake neighborhood. Ms. Askia is the former executive director of Gideon’s Promise. She began her career as a Teach for America Fellow in the District of Columbia Public Schools. She later taught, facilitated teacher training, and wrote curriculum for public school systems in Washington, D.C., and Georgia.

Last week, Brian Lake introduced our speakers, Joseph Loveland and Beth Tanis, Atlanta attorneys who are members of Georgia Lawyers for the Rule of Law. They spoke about the essential importance of the rule of law – a principle that ensures we are a nation of laws, not men – and about the disturbing recent attempts to erode it. Under the rule of law, there is a fair and impartial process for legal disputes; everyone is held accountable under the law; everyone is equal under the law; and a separation of powers is maintained among the three branches of government, as stipulated in the U.S. constitution.
We also inducted a new member, TJ Dunnivant. She is a resident experience coordinator at Decatur Housing, and a graduate student at Agnes Scott College. Please say hello and welcome her to the club!
