Kate Golebiowsky, a native of Australia and a Fulbright Scholar at Emory University, spoke about how Australia uses a variety of visas to control immigration, with different types of visas available for different purposes and circumstances.
One of the most common types is the skilled worker visa intended for people who have skills or qualifications that are in high demand in Australia, such as doctors, engineers, or IT professionals.
Applicants are assigned points based on factors such as their age, education level, work experience, and language proficiency.
Motivations to stay include good pay, social connections, quality of life, health care, political stability and public safety
Motivations to leave include visa conditions met, extreme climate, high cost of living, housing, remoteness
Overall, Australia uses its visa system to carefully manage immigration and ensure that those who enter the country have the skills and qualifications needed to contribute to the country's growth and development.
